The Road to Spain campaign unites our national Working Equitation community to champion athlete development, international representation, and the continued growth of Working

Key Dates on the Road to Spain

Declared riders will compete in a series of WAWE qualifying events held across Canada from May through June 2026, each milestone bringing them closer to Team Canada selection. These competitions represent not only individual achievement, but the collective pride of a nation united behind its Working Equitation athletes. The journey culminates at one of the most prestigious venues in the equestrian world - Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

 

These events represent critical milestones as Canadian riders compete for qualification on the international stage. Each competition sharpens the field and elevates the standard of Working Equitation across the country.

WAWE World Qualifier
British Columbia

Event Details

Dates: May 21–24, 2026

Location: Armstrong, British Columbia

The first stop on the Road to Spain, Armstrong, BC sets the tone for
the qualifying season. Nestled in the Okanagan region, this venue
offers a spectacular backdrop for high-calibre Working Equitation
competition.

What to Expect

Riders from across the country will gather in Armstrong for this
first 2026 qualifying event, showcasing technical precision,
partnership, and the artistry that defines Working Equitation at the national level.


This event is open to spectators and supporters- come cheer on
Canada's finest equestrian athletes as they begin their journey to
Spain.

WAWE World Qualifier
Ontario

Event Details

Dates: May 29–31, 2026

Location: Royal Canadian Riding Academy | Cedar Valley, Ontario

The Ontario qualifier brings the Road to Spain to the heart of
Canada's most populous equestrian province, offering riders a crucial second opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for the world stage.

What to Expect

Royal Canadian Riding Academy is one of Ontario's most prestigious equestrian venues. The Ontario qualifier promises a high standard of competition as riders from the Eastern Canada vie for top placements and World Championships selection.

exciting mid-season qualifier, set against the beautiful rolling
countryside of Whitechurch/Stouffville Region.

WAWE World Qualifier
Alberta

Event Details

Dates: June 11–14, 2026

Location: Westerner Park, Red Deer, Alberta

The Alberta qualifier at the renowned Westerner Park in Red Deer
brings the qualifying series to a close under the wide Alberta skies.
With top-tier facilities and a passionate Western Canada equestrian
community, this event is not to be missed.

The Final Selection

As the final Canadian qualifier before the World Championships, the Alberta event carries particular significance. Riders enter knowing that every performance matters, the field narrows, and Team Canada takes shape.
 

Westerner Park's world-class facilities provide an ideal setting for this defining moment in the Road to Spain campaign.
